In 2021, a few of us came together wondering how we could share what we have learned with our broader community and advocate for our shared environment. What we had in common was our passion for native plants and our witness to the miracles happening daily in our own backyards. We watched as our city properties were transformed within a very short time after introducing more native plants and removing the non-native ornamentals (and sometimes invasive species). We were amazed at how the natural world seemed to restore itself with ease. We began to talk about a vision for our city, where birds and insects are welcome and people cultivate what belongs here in New England. Our group immediately became larger as some members of UUCW Garden On team heard about our work and joined us. Soon, we were planning our first event. Through offering educational workshops and events, our connections with others doing essential conservation work in Worcester is growing! We look forward to joining forces and getting native plants out to as many Worcester-ites as possible in the coming years.
We are a community-based organization focused on getting more native plants into the Worcester landscape, advocating for more green policies, and educating the public on the benefits and necessity of native plants for climate change mitigation. With the help of our tireless volunteer committee, we are working toward partnering with existing agencies in the city.
We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our many on-going projects. We'll help you find a way to volunteer that best suits you. We're excited to have you join us in our mission of making native plants the norm in Worcester!
Whether you help through monetary donations, volunteering your time, or spreading our mission through word-of-mouth, thank you. We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of supporters like you. Email wnpi07@gmail.com to get involved.
